The National Minimum Wage (NMW)

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the minimum amount you can expect to be paid whilst working in the United Kingdom, it is reviewed annually by The Low Pay Comission. From the 1st October 2011 The NMW is increasing.

The current National Minimum Wage
• £5.93 per hour is the main rate of pay for workers aged 21 and over
• £4.92 per hour is the rate of pay for workers between the ages of 18 - 20
• £3.64 per hour is the rate of pay for workers who have left school and are between the ages of 16 - 17 but under the age of 18
• £2.50 per hour is the rate of pay for an apprentice under the age of 19 or 19 and over providing they are in the first year of their apprenticeship
The National Minimum Wage from the 1st October 2011
• £6.08 per hour is the main rate of pay for workers aged 21 and over
• £4.98 per hour is the rate of pay for workers between the ages of 18 - 20
• £3.68 per hour is the rate of pay for workers who have left school and are between the ages of 16 - 17 but under the age of 18
• £2.60 per hour is the rate of pay for an apprentice under the age of 19 or 19 and over providing they are in the first year of their apprenticeship
